The 2017 cross country season saw its share of accomplishments for the girls’ cross country team. Sophomore, Carly Garrett finished her season as the top runner for Bartlett. This year she set a new personal record and school record of 20:18 on the 5K course at Shelby Farms at the Regional meet and placed 6th overall, earning the opportunity to run at the State meet on November 4. This was a race in miserable conditions, heavy rain, mud and cold. Against the odds, she had the best race of her career. At State she ran on tough ground conditions (soft and wet) in Nashville with a time of 21:20.
Carly started this season recovering from a stress fracture in her foot this past spring. Through perseverance and dedication to the team, she overcame this challenge to finish the season with her best time. For the team, she brings a positive attitude to practice and races. She is an inspiration to her teammates. At practice Carly does not back down from a workout. She knows that every workout is the way get stronger and faster. At a race she has an encouraging message for all before, during and after. Carly will be found cheering for her teammates after her race is over. She is one of our greatest motivators and a reason for our success this season.
